Feed = Meg Squeaky
This unit, M.T Anderson, is like meg smart. This reading thingie he wrote called Feed is like the story of my life. It is my life. My mom who is meg null and def not a unette sent me this like link of this like bookstore and told me to download it. It was the first time I ever downloaded some thingie that had to do with learning. I usually don’t even bother reading because words are like meg null but my teacher at school™ is being like a meg ahole and is making everyone write a review on like a book. That’s the only reason I downloaded it.
Like most thingies I do for school™ I sparkplugged Feed. All the data was right in front of me. I was like omigod! I felt real connected with the units and unettes. I want to be just like them. Like all they do is get weaselfaced, have sex, and go in-mal. That’s a good days work to me. And then like on their Spring Break they went to the fricken Moon. And on the Moon they went clubbing and some old weird guy like zapped them and they woke up in the hospital. And when they woke up their feeds were like gone. But for fun they found all these needles and like threw them at some fake dudes crotch. I laughed meg hard when I read that. Then Titus this dude who is like just like me meets this girl Violet and they go out. He puts on the moves but she like ignores him like a real bitch, and she doesn’t want him until shes like meg depressed. To all the units and unettes you got to download Feed, by M.T Anderson.
My blog is going to explore the topics of science fiction and blogging the assignments that my teacher gives out. I will also be using my blog for personal use by describing whats going on in the world and sports.

4th set of stanzas
Katniss awakes with a collar around her throat
Peeta’s grip was more than she could connote
Doctors say he was “hijacked”
A form of torture that’s caused his mind some slack
The rebels march to district two
Plans were put through review
The “Nut” the Capitol needs, stands at the core
The rebels bomb it, until it stands no more
Training for the final battle commence
The atmosphere around thirteen starts to tense
The “Star Squad” prepares to embark
Coin tells them that they won’t get to leave their mark
A simple shot turns into pain
As Boggs steps on a mine, and is immediately slain
The block turns into a murder scene
Another pod is triggered and a black liquid replaces the smoke screen
Snow thought the squad was buried in the carnage mound
When really they trekked through the underground
The mutts aren’t fooled and go below
Finnick is the next to join deaths flow
Children are Snow’s only protection
The parachute bombs blow half the street section
Prim and other medics rush to their aide
The other bombs blow, making the bodies frayed
In the rose garden katniss finds Snow
There he tells her what Coin wants Panem to undergo
Coin votes for a Hunger Game to relay that the Capitol is dead
Then instead of Snow, Katniss putts an arrow through Coins head
Katniss goes on trial
The judges deem her to depressed to be hostile
Katniss and Peeta return to their home district
Where they and their children live without fear of conflict
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------end of story
(beginning stanzas)
District twelve, home of Katniss Everdeen
Where nothing shines green
The only places of interest are the hob
And the woods where they illegally rob
The day of the reaping comes with fear
People line the square waiting to who will disappear
Effie calls out Prim’s name
Katniss pushes her aside and volunteers to enter the next Hunger Game
Peeta’s grip was more than she could connote

The Story of Gluck: Hero of Falgar
A long, long, long time ago in the now peaceful realm of Falgar wasn’t so peaceful. The realm is known for its two towers. One is used for evil while the other is for good. Life on Falgar is dictated by a magic gem. The magic gem sits atop one of the two towers, and whichever one it’s in relates to the aura of the Realm. The inhabitants of Falgar try to make sure the gem always resides atop the good tower. It doesn’t happen often, only once in fact, that the gem has ever resided atop the evil tower. That time though, almost destroyed the realm.
Tranquil is a small village on the northeastern corner of Falgar. The closest village is a good month’s journey. The village was very quiet and peaceful. No one ever came, but whenever an outsider came (as rare as that was) they were always treated like a king. Tranquil was known for its dairy products. They were the best of the realm. Every young boy dreamed of becoming a famer and owning their own farm. The girls took pride in their work, and made sure their legacy of creating the best dairy products stuck.
Never, had there been a resident of Tranquil who didn’t want to continue the legacy. That was until Gluck was born. He didn’t fit in from the beginning. He just didn’t like farming. When most kids were out on the farm harvesting crop, he was inside reading old manuscripts and elder scrolls. His physique was also different than the other boys. While the farm boys were all strongly built, Gluck was very scrawny and could barely lift a bale of hay. This had a tremendous affect on his social life. Kids his age ignored him and labeled him as an outcast. The girls didn’t dare go near him for fear or getting punished for talking to the outcast. He wanted to leave Tranquil, he tried many times, but he always came back. He knew he couldn’t do anything once he left the village, he was useless, and had no special attributes. All he could do was long for the day when he could prove himself normal and not a defect.
One day while Gluck was in his hammock, reading about the elder days, he heard commotion coming from the village center. He decided to see what it was all about. The crowd reached all the way back to the churning houses when Gluck arrived. Everyone was staring at an outsider who looked like an angel. His name was Vivos and he came from the land of Vivata the home of the good tower. No one knew why such a person would travel to their land. Then he spoke, “I have come from the home of the good tower, to bring bad news.” The townsfolk began to cry out in utter fear. “The magic gem that brings good to this realm has been stolen by an evil serpent warlord who is bringing the gem back to the evil tower”. Even more fear swept through the crowd. “With the gem gone, life will be suspended. Nothing new can grow and everything that lives will slowly die. Not until the gem is returned will life be returned.”
At that point a farmer came running into the center of the crowd by Vivos and held up a handful of wheat. “It’s dead, it’s dead. I don’t know how but the wheat is dead, all of it dead.” Now the townspeople almost fainted.
“My god, it has already started. This is bad, real bad. Listen up everyone. I have traveled far and wide. I have visited every corner of the realm in search of someone who will travel to Desolan, home of the dark tower, slay the warlord, and return the gem back to the good tower. Is anyone brave enough to accept this task?” muttered Vivos. No one volunteered. “Please, Tranquil is the last place on my list to visit. If no one accepts then all hope of life will be gone.” Still no one volunteered. Then just as Vivos was leaving someone spoke up
“I accept the task.” Gluck stepped into the circle and repeated, “I accept this task.” The townsfolk were stunned and worried. Gluck is weak how could he save the realm. Vivos turned around and looked Gluck straight in the eyes, “Are you sure you want to accept this quest?”
“I’m positive,” replied Gluck.
“Then you should leave at once, time is ticking,” and with that Vivos disappeared.
Gluck ran back to his house and grabbed everything he thought he would need. His knapsack contained food, a dagger, and a drawing notebook. When he went back outside a man he had never spoken to stood outside with a horse by his side. “This horse is the fastest in all the realm, he shall guide you well in the unknown lands.” Gluck had to accept, and he did. Gluck saddled up and left for Desolan. This would be the first time that Gluck had ever ventured outside the village border.
The first blunder of many for Gluck came when he left his village. He had forgotten to ask where Desolan was located. He had no idea where he was going. That’s when something magical happened. The horse spoke to him. “Don’t fear young child. My name is Equin the Old and I have been around for many years, and know the land better than any elder. I sense that you want to go to Desolan. Tis a far journey, but I know shortcuts. We can make it by three months.” Gluck had never come across a speaking horse before, let alone an elder creature. He didn’t question his intelligence though, and knew he could trust him.
Gluck spoke, “Off to Desolan, I guess, and fast.”
The next few weeks were full of nothing but opalescent mountains and lakes, and more mountains and lakes. The scenery was fantastic. Gluck had never seen such beauty in his life. He noted all of his sightings in his drawing notebook. Soon it would be filled with something more then just pictures.
One day, after two months worth of travel, while resting, Equin suddenly became alert. “There is trouble coming this way. We must hurry and find a better spot to rest.” The two quickly packed their belongings and headed off to the nearby woods. Five minutes later, Gluck saw what Equin was talking about. Coming down from the mountains was a caravan of strange, shadowy looking creatures. Gluck almost fainted when he saw the horror that followed. After every step the caravan took, death followed. All those opalescent mountains and lakes turned into a distinct macabre color. Equin spoke softly to Gluck, “Those are minions of the warlord. They were the first to be cursed by the gem after in was brought to the evil tower. The only way they can be turned back is if the gem is returned to the good tower. Until that happens we must stay far away from them. They possess powers far greater than any man.”
Gluck couldn’t have agreed anymore with Equin. Out of fear, the two waited a full day, to be sure that they were out of reach. Back on the road, it seemed that they weren’t the only ones hiding from the minions. Hoards of all sorts of creatures were bounding along the road. They varied from tiny Elven frogs to the most treacherous marauders known to mankind. The strange thing about the creatures though, was that they all seemed to be following the path left by the evil caravan. Equin explained to Gluck that those who touch the death ridden path become cursed. Only the ones who don’t show fear are immuned. “I am very old, and even though those men may seem scary, I’ve seen worse.” Gluck was thankful that Equin did not fear, because he sure did.
After following the crowd for three weeks the two decided to veer off the path. Equin became weary that if they had stayed on that course that they might’ve been found out by one of the warlords assistants or spies. They decided that they should shadow the others on the side by the forest, out of site. That way they could easily find the tower without being seen by the spies.
A strange event occurred four days later. While walking in the forest the two stumbled upon a brood of crows. The two groups started to chatter amongst each other. Gluck came to realize that these were only the offspring, and that they were waiting for their mother to return. Suddenly the mother appeared. She was much larger than normal crows. She said her name was Be-Treyu, and that she was the chieftain of a village of crows who reside in a land where the trees are so high that they literally block the sun out.
“Where are you off to young adventurer?” Be-Treyu asked.
Gluck answered in a confident tone, “I am going to the evil tower to slay the evil warlord and return the magic gem to the good tower.”
“What a coincidence, we too are going there. I know secret ways. Come, follow me,” said Be-Treyu.
The young adventurer didn’t know how to respond. Should he trust her or no. He discussed his options with Equin.
“Should we trust her? She knows secret ways. We might be able to hasten our arrival to the tower,” whispered Gluck.
Equin answered in an elderly voice, “I don’t know Gluck. She wears the color of evil. I don’t think she should be trusted. But this is your quest, not mine, you write your own history.”
Gluck turned back towards Be-Treyu and defiantly said, “Be-Treyu, we give you our trust. Lead on.”
The group hastily made their way through the woods. After two days of traveling they came to a jagged cliff. The tower was across the gorge.
“How shall we cross,” asked Gluck.
“Watch, and you shall see,” Answered Be-Treyu.
The crow chieftain then flew high up into the air and started to recite some ancient language. Neither Gluck nor Equin had ever heard this language. When she returned a large staircase magically appeared. It stretched from the edge of the cliff to the top of the tower. The adventurers bounded up the stairs like young gazelles. Once on the top of the tower they could not understand what they saw.
Standing in the center of the top tier was the warlord and a small army. That’s when Be-Treyu and her brood of crows flew over and perched themselves on the mighty shoulders of the warlord.
“Thank you my dearest. You and your children have done well,” the warlord said with a growing grin.
“It was quite easy my lord. He disobeyed the elder horse and naively gave his trust to me,” laughed the crow.
Gluck suddenly became very pale and almost fainted. He felt like his whole world had been tipped upside down. He tried running back to the stairs, but right before he got to them he bounced back.
The warlord laughed so hard he knocked five of his minions over. “Silly human. Do you really think after brining you to my tower I would just let you go? I’ve heard of your quest young Gluck. My spies here have been following you ever since your quest began.”
The information was starting to overwhelm Gluck.
“You can’t do this. I will not let you succeed!” screamed Gluck.
Gluck took his little dagger out of his knapsack and charged the warlord. He took a swipe, but the warlord dodged the attack. The warlord then stepped on Gluck’s chest and pointed the end of his sword towards Gluck’s neck.
“A lot of courage you have young human. Pardon me. Have I introduced myself yet? I would hate for you not to know the name of the one that kills you. So, here it is, my name is Lucio, I have come from a far off realm to seek the power of the gem. Now your adventure shall end.”
Lucio raised his sword and was about to strike when all of a sudden he was knocked to the ground. Lucio had totally forgotten about Equin. The horse galloped and knocked over the minion. This gave enough time for Gluck to recover. He grabbed his sword and charged Lucio.
“Now it is your time to die,” yelled gluck.
Gluck took his sword and swiped down upon Lucio. His sword disemboweled Lucio. Then he dragged his lifeless body across the top of the tower. Now that the warlord was dead, all of his magical doings would be repeled, so the magical force field was gone. Gluck lifted the dead body of Lucio above his head, and then threw it over the ledge. Lucio’s body fell and fell and fell until it hit solid ground, where the entrails splattered all over the place.
With their leader now dead, and no one to obey, the minions scattered away from the tower. With the minions gone Gluck turned his attention to the other part of his task, taking the gem. The gem stood off to the side lodged inside of a crevice. There seemed to be dark vines attached to the bottom of the gem. When he went to touch the gem the vines instantly withered away and its dark color returned to its normal clear state. He was able to pick up the gem and place it in his knapsack. Gluck then walked over to Equin.
Gluck talked in a thankful tone, “Oh Equin, I owe my life to you. You saved my life. You saved the gem.”
“I was only doing what I felt was right. Also this quest isn’t over just yet. We must now make the trip to Vivata and return the gem to its natural state,” said Equin
The two traveled with great speed, only stopping when rest was absolutely needed. The gem, now in the hands of good, seemed to give them extra speed and strength. The trip that usually takes a two months journey was made in a week. Gluck stood before the tall white tower that gleamed in the sunlight. He stared in its awe. It took him a while to make it up the long stairs, for he found himself distracted by the beautiful artwork painted on the tower’s walls. Once at the top, Gluck placed the gem in its holding, and watched in amazement as green vines arose from the floor and engaged around the gem. With the gem restored Gluck could see the path of death slowly receding and turning into new life.
The townsfolk went crazy when Gluck arrived home from the trip. Never did they expect such a weakling to complete such a task. Those who bullied him now praised him. The girls who ignored him now adored him. Everyone was bowing to his feet. He was now popular and accepted.
In the months that followed the quest, the village of Tranquil became very popular. Travelers from all over the realm came to see Gluck. His notebook, where he pictured his adventure was published all over the lands. And that is how Gluck became the hero of Falgar.
Tranquil is a small village on the northeastern corner of Falgar. The closest village is a good month’s journey. The village was very quiet and peaceful. 3rd set of stanzas
Katniss is chosen to be the mockingjay
Her list of demands on display
The captured tributes are to be immune
And she gets to skin Snow like a baboon
A trip is taken to floor thirty-nine
Where it smells heavily of brine
Off to room eight
Cinna’s old crew shackled abate
Self Defense is next on the list
Where Beetee works as a mad scientist
A special bow made just for Katniss
Brings her a feeling of bliss
The propo is shot with little ease
It gave Haymitch particular displease
Command wants to put her in action
To see if she can cause a positive reaction
In District 8 the bombs are let loose
The number of dead bodies is profuse
A defenseless hospital destroyed
Katniss’ words fill a dying void
The Capitol strikes back with a propo of their own
Peeta thinks she’s acting like the rebels drone
The districts urge to rebel burns more than an ember
All of Panem becomes familiar with “We Remember”
Katniss sings “The hanging tree”
She realizes she may never be free
Beetee finally breaks through
People of the Capitol are shocked at what they view
Peeta speaks of death to thirteen
Nothing can be heard over the sirens breath
The bombings create a scare
But they can’t break the lair
Another delivery of roses
Katniss decomposes
She knows why Peeta is being used
She can only cry bruised and confused
The tributes are rescued from Snow
Finnick tells his dark secrets that bring woe
The rescued are happy to be back
Except Peeta who is intent on attack
Her list of demands on display
The captured tributes are to be immune
And she gets to skin Snow like a baboon
A trip is taken to floor thirty-nine
Where it smells heavily of brine
Off to room eight
Cinna’s old crew shackled abate
Self Defense is next on the list
Where Beetee works as a mad scientist
A special bow made just for Katniss
Brings her a feeling of bliss
The propo is shot with little ease
It gave Haymitch particular displease
Command wants to put her in action
To see if she can cause a positive reaction
In District 8 the bombs are let loose
The number of dead bodies is profuse
A defenseless hospital destroyed
Katniss’ words fill a dying void
The Capitol strikes back with a propo of their own
Peeta thinks she’s acting like the rebels drone
The districts urge to rebel burns more than an ember
All of Panem becomes familiar with “We Remember”
Katniss sings “The hanging tree”
She realizes she may never be free
Beetee finally breaks through
People of the Capitol are shocked at what they view
Peeta speaks of death to thirteen
Nothing can be heard over the sirens breath
The bombings create a scare
But they can’t break the lair
Another delivery of roses
Katniss decomposes
She knows why Peeta is being used

Twisted Tale- Goldi Locks and The Three Bears
Goldilocks and The Three Bears
Today has been horrible. First my parents forced me to pick some flowers in these woods and then I find out that Justin Bieber is really 16 years old. I have always thought he was my age, way to ruin a little seven year olds dream, Justin. Where are these flowers anyways? My parents didn’t even tell me what kind to get. I think I’ll wander in the woods to spare some time, and pick up some dandelions on my way back.
Wow, a house! Why would there be a house this deep in the forest? Something smells really good. It seems to be coming from the house. I’m so hungry, I have to go in. The house surprisingly is nicer than the ones back in the village. Who would’ve thought that a house in the woods was better than a mansion in the village? The smell is coming from a table in the kitchen. On it were plates full of all kinds of shrimp. Let’s start with the fried shrimp. Not bad, but Mario Batali makes them better. What next, how about the jumbo shrimp. Woa, those are way too big, the people that live here must be pretty big. Ahhh, the shrimp gumbo, Bubba Gump got nuthin’ on this gumbo. That has to be the best gumbo I’ve ever had in my life.
All this walking has made my feet tired. Hey, there are some chairs in the next room. All of the chairs have some sort of picture on them. The Fat Albert one looks comfy enough. Ugh, this is so uncomfortable, it’s so big. Even Fat Albert would feel small in this chair. Next…..ugh, Justin Bieber I think I’ll leave that one alone. OH MY GOD, A SPONGEBOB CHAIR! This is so comfortable; I wish I had one of these in my room. CRASH. Ooops, I think I ripped his pants. What should I do, I ruined it. Better yet, what would Obama do? I’ll just pick it up on the way out whoever lives here probably won’t notice.
Now that my feet are rested, I think I’ll take a nap and rest the rest of my body. This bedroom is pretty big. Which bed should I sleep in? This one is large with honey colored sheets that one is small with stars, and the third one seems average and it has pink sheets. I love pink!
What, what, what was that? Where is that noise coming from? I hear mumbling. Oh no, the owners have come home and they realized I ate their shrimp dinner along with seeing Spongebob’s ripped pants. Maybe they won’t come up here.
“Where is my shrimp gumbo” a feminine voice said.
“My chair is broken, see Spongebob’s pants are ripped” another said innocently.
“What was that upstairs, I think something or someone is up there. We should look” said a more masculine voice.
I have to get out of here, they could capture me, maybe even eat me. I can’t go down stairs, so I guess my other option is the window. I hear them coming I better hurry up and get out of here.
“It’s a little girl! What? There’s no way she could’ve eaten all that food” said the masculine one.
“Daddy, since she ate our food, ripped Spongebob’s pants, and slept in our beds can we eat her?” The little one said.
“Well I am hungry, let’s get her.” The masculine one said.
Ahhhh bears! Weeeeee I’m flying! Ouch, that hurt. I didn’t realize the window was so high up. I’m never coming back here again! Now where are those flowers?

Damned Thing Rewrite
Off the coast of Spain lies a small island, so remote that it doesn’t even appear on world maps. No one outside the little island even knows about it. It’s only other proof of existence is a little piece of paper Christopher Columbus had signed, claiming the island as property of Spain. The Queen called it Deserted Island. Over the years people passed it by, and did nothing, though some occasionally stopped and rested. When passing by, it looked like a giant sandbar. Its inhabitants, four small families, were all descendants from the islands first inhabitant or so they thought.
It was July, which meant that it was trading month. The Rodriguez family would be traveling to the mainland where they would sell their catch. For some odd reason, Luis stayed behind, stating he was behind in his work. Luis was a well respected and exceptional scientist, so the family didn’t question. After a week of selling fish and spending their profit, the family returned with smiles. Their catch had totaled over $300,000, but after all the expenditures $200,000 remained. Chris wanted to tell his father all about his stay on the mainland, but couldn’t find him. All of a sudden a screech was heard from behind the house, it was Roberta. The family rushed to find Roberta standing over a charred body and crimson stained ashes scattered about. The body belonged to Luis. The family made contact with the mainland and the criminal investigating unit quickly arrived. They searched the island for clues. Trees were severely gnawed and there were lines of charred sand zigzagging through small lines of trees. Chris went on his own to look for clues. About five feet to the left of where his father had been found lay a video camera filled with unharmed tape that dated back to the beginning of the week. He showed the investigators, who had also found multiple cameras, but they were all fried. All hope of finding out what had happened to Luis rested in what was inside of the one working camera.
The head investigator plugged the video from the camera into the VCR. What they saw was astonishing. Luis was standing in front of the house; it looked like he was waving to his family. After a couple of minutes of standing and waving, he anxiously/nervously looked about in all directions. He then sprinted back into the house. Nothing moved for several days. On the fifth day, a powerful storm started up. It was nothing like Chris had ever seen. Trees swayed violently in the strong winds and large waves crashed down onto the land. The next night Luis was seen creeping out of the house with some sort of metallic rod. It resembled a lightning rod. He ran behind the house where there was a small clearing in front of a small set of trees and started to prod the sand, putting holes in the ground, and then connecting the holes with lines drawn by the rod. The rod stood directly in the middle. The figure was in the shape of some ancient symbol. It was a flame inside of a circle.
At exactly midnight, a very bright light flew down from the sky and landed right in the circle hitting the pole. At that moment a force field seemingly sprouted out of nowhere and inside stood some sort of electromagnetic creature, a lightning elemental or some sort. The creature thrashed about, trying to break through the bonds, but it was in vain, for it was not going to break. Luis jumped around screaming in joy. Most of the words were hard to understand but what could clearly be heard was, “I have caught it, I have caught it, I have really caught it.” He stepped on the ground in some sort of pattern; it looked like he was trying to find something. His foot then sunk into the sand, and as he pulled it out, the sand disappeared and out of it arose a lab. Luis picked up a two pronged pole from one of the lab tables and stuck it through the force field, into the creature. Temperature readings, EMP force, radiation data swarmed one of the computer screens. “Argggghhh, Eeeeeeee”, the creature was screeching so loudly that Luis had to put on a device resembling earmuffs. The next instrument of choice was a long pole with a rotating satellite dish on the end. He tried to connect it to the top of the pole, but he was trembling so much from the screeching that he missed and the creature unexpectedly caught it. It pulled the instrument, along with Luis, through the shield, thus breaking the magnetic bond of the force field. With the bond now broken the creature suddenly vanished. His facial expressions turned into great fear, he seemed to know he was going to die. There was movement among the trees. They bent and broke. The ones left standing looked like they had been hit by a fireball. Blood suddenly started to spew from Luis’ body. Many cuts were forming all over his body. “Owww, Arrghhhh”, Luis was screaming. The edge of the cuts started to char and turn black. He almost resembled a roasted pig as he crawled toward his set of instruments. He reached for a small round object with a switch on it and flicked it. An explosion of light came from where he lay. The explosion left as quickly as it had come. What was left was a pile of ashes and the dead body of Luis.
Everyone in the room was silent. They were still shocked from what had just been viewed. The investigators moved to the next room where they deliberated on the cause of death of Luis.
“What we have just witnessed is beyond explanation. I don’t even know where to start. In my fifteen years in this business I have never seen such a thing. How are we supposed to explain this to the chief? There’s no way he’ll believe this” Stated Richard (head of the unit).
The others mumbled amongst themselves. “He’s right, what are we supposed to tell the head honcho? Are jobs are on the line here. He’s going to laugh at us and fire us on the spot. (One of them mimics the chief) You’re going to tell me a creature came down from the sky, turned invisible, and killed this man. HAHAHAHAH, is this some sort of joke. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. My 2 month old son makes more sense than you, and he can barely speak.”
He stops mimicking and the investigators stop talking. Then the youngest of the group came up with an idea.
“That’s it. A lightning storm, that’s it. We can tell the chief that Mr. Rodriguez was outside studying the weather during a storm, and was repeatedly struck by lightning while holding the lightning rod. That answers the charred body. Then we can tell him that the lightning burnt the sand creating the ash. Most of it is going to blow away anyways, so we won’t have to show him the ones with blood.”
The unit agreed, and they walked to the family to tell them that their work there was done.
“I heard what you said. You are going to tell everybody my father dies from a lightning storm. That’s a lie”, said Chris.
“Well kid, unless you tell me something I didn’t see, your father was killed by lightning”, replied Richard.
“But that’s a lie. You saw that creature attack him”, said Chris.
“Actually, no, I didn’t. I saw lightning hit a lightning rod then disappear and your father on the ground burnt to a pulp” Snickered Richard.
“But what about the ashes with my father’s blood”, Chris was trying as hard as he could to get Richard to tell the truth.
“What ashes. There are no ashes. Even if there were, they would’ve been blown out to sea by now. Sorry kid, our work here is done.”
With that last reply the investigators left to return to the mainland. The family finally came to terms with the death, and buried Luis on the island. The report back on the mainland said Luis Rodriguez died from being struck repeatedly by lightning. The one thing that still baffled the investigators and the family was…what happened to the lab.
The door was next to the staircase leading to the second floor. Behind the door was an elevator that led straight down for about 50 feet. Once stopped, it opened to a magnificent underwater laboratory. The lab spread over the size of the island and it was enclosed by some strong glass. It made the visitor seem like they were swimming in the ocean. There stood many machines and tables full of equipments. On the ceiling lay panels where the lab could shift up above surface level. That is how Luis brought up his instruments during the event. In the far corner of the lab a large computer sat on top of a large desk with many drawers. That is where the most important work of Luis Rodriguez rested.
The file was labeled: Lightning Creature- the one that never dies. Luis kept every part of this file neatly organized. The first section was a timeline dating back to the 1400’s. Shown next to the timeline was an energy chart with side notes by Luis. If the link labeled key dates was clicked, the timeline would cut itself up, and only show the dates where the energy level was higher than 200. The first note read: an explosion caused the forming of Deserted Island. The one that never dies was that explosion. The explosion was so powerful that it lowered the water level enough so that a small strip of land protruded from the water. Other notes followed: This creature is not dangerous. Its energy level is very remarkable, and whenever it makes its presence something extraordinary occurs. I would love to study this creature and figure out what causes these ratings. It comes by explosion, and with my recent data seems to be lightning. The last note s written by Luis were dated the month that he died. Energy levels have spiked to 182 in Earth’s core. I have tested the force field many times and it has been able to withstand energy levels of over 400. Once it is the force field, I will stab it with the two pronged rod which will measure its energy ratings. The satellite rod will be used to take in the sounds of the creature and attempt to translate what it says. The creature will arrive in four days. This is unfortunate because my family is leaving to cash in earnings for our catch that day, but this is a once in a lifetime moment, so I cannot miss this. This creature doesn’t seem harmless so I’m hoping it won’t react violently to my instruments.
The last and newest file uploaded to the computer was dated the exact day and time that Luis died. The file contained everything from the encounter. The satellite rod did its job.
“I come in peace, please stop. Why have you trapped me? I am just a creature of lightning. I have come for my rest stop. I come to Earth every 200 years when my orbit intersects with Earth’s. I have only come to admire its beauty… If you insist on a fight I will retaliate. I feel no pain but you shall.”
No one ever saw or discovered this information, let alone the lab. The family left after Luis’ death and the houses remained. The soul of Luis and the Lightning creature are all that reside on the island.

2nd stanzas
They send a message to the capitol by scoring twelves
The other competitors will surely want to put their heads on shelves
Katniss does a fiery twirl on stage
The mockingjay gets the audience to engage
The tributes rise and hold hands as the trumpet plays
It’s the first sign of unity since the dark days
Cinna goes to wish Katniss good luck
Only to be beaten like a schmuck
The tributes rise to the arena
The Cornucopia stands out in the water like a marina
Katniss finds an ally in Finnick
They grab their weapons and join the bloodshed gimmick
Peeta nearly dies from running into a force field
Katniss climbs a tree where the circular shape of the arena is revealed
Their need for water ends
When a spire descends
A poisonous fog mysteriously appears
Mags, no longer able to go on, runs into the fog and disappears
The monkey mutts attack from trees
The woman from district 6 stops the attack and falls to her knees
Tick tok, tick tok, tick tok is all Wiress can say
They figure the arena to be a clock, thats one mystery done away
The four careers strike
Wiress and two of them take a “hike”
The sand takes a spin
Finnick and Katniss go to the jungle and hear familiar screams from within
Beetee thinks of a brilliant idea
Katniss blows up the arena turning the force field into a tortilla
Katniss awakes with a killer intent
The only emotions she feels are of anger and repent
The only thing they can do is get her sedated
Peeta is gone and the others feel her hatred
Visiting 12, she relives the past
She knows she’s responsible for the bombs blast
Grabbing her things, she can’t forget the cat
The rose in her dresser that she can only look at
Ceaser and Peeta meet again
His words are full of pain
He pleads the rebels to cease fire
Theres no way they can please his desire
The other competitors will surely want to put their heads on shelves
Katniss does a fiery twirl on stage

Change in Point of View and Fractured Timeline
Changing the point of view and using the technique of fractured timeline can greatly affect a piece of writing. When telling Fitcher’s Bird originally, it was obvious from the beginning of the fairytale that the sorcerer was evil. When my group used the fracturing timeline technique, we started at the end where the youngest daughter disguises herself as a bird, and when Fitcher returns, she locks Fitcher and the wedding guests in the house and sets it on fire. The technique makes it look like the daughter is evil, and it also raises questions, for example why is she disguised as a bird?, and why did she set the house with all the people on fire?. With the change from third person to first person, the audience can get a better feeling about who the character really is and how he/she act. Fracturing time hooks the audience by raising a daunting question and change of point of view lets the audience hear the story through the characters view.

Lessons learnes from Fitcher's Bird
Unlike, the Disney Fairy tales little children watch every day, Fitcher’s Bird is a much more violent adaptation of a children’s fantasy. The themes and lessons though, are still the same. Some common examples are looks can be deceiving and don’t trust strangers. The sorcerer dressed as a poor beggar who needed food, but in reality he was a cruel and evil and dismembered his victims if they didn’t obey his rules. A complex lesson would be protecting life. The egg, that Fitcher says to protect, represents life. If the egg is ruined then what’s inside cannot hatch and it will die. The younger sister protects her egg, and she survives and is ultimately able to revive her sisters and kill the sorcerer. Even with the violence, Fitcher’s Bird still has the same themes and lessons learned from the earlier fairy tales that appear on the Disney channel.

stanzas
Oh, how things have changed
Her life has been disarranged
No more hunting or visits to the hob
Gale and past memories make her heart throb
President Snow makes a threat
Katniss has to accept and shudders with cold sweat
When will this love game end
For Katniss hates to pretend
The victors move by train to district eleven
Compared to district twelve it looks like heaven
There on the stage are the families of the fallen
Rue and Thresh will never be forgotten
The visits through the districts go on and on
To stare upon all the faces takes more than just brawn
Into the Capitol the victors arrive
With marriage in the air, will Katniss and Gale ever survive
Head Gamekeeper Plutarch shows a watch
The Mockingjay is the main topic of talk
District eight has started to rebel
Katniss and Gale plan to escape before the Quarter Quell
A new Peacekeeper has been sent
Gale would have died if it weren’t for Katniss’ ascent
Days have grown weary
As the relationship with the Capitol gets eerie
The border fence buzzes to life
Bonnie and Twill give news that stabs like a knife
Could District thirteen really have survived
The news on the television seems that they may have been revived
The Quarter Quell card was read
Katniss could only drink herself to bed
The training began
And the victors started an elite like gameplan
The reaping repeats
Katniss and Peeta study film to learn of the other victors’ deceits
They sit and watch the Quarter Quell
As they learned that Haymitch cheated the games as well
The opening ceremonies in the capital start
The tributes dress and climb in their chariots ready to depart
Strategy is discussed at dinner
After training the field of allies grows thinner
Her life has been disarranged
No more hunting or visits to the hob
Gale and past memories make her heart throb

dark fantasy assessment
Dark Fantasy is a genre that focuses on themes such as horror, fear, impending death, the unknown, etc…. “Duel”, by Richard Matheson, provides the themes through a modern day encounter between a regular person and a maniacal truck driver. “The Raft”, by Stephen King, uses the themes as an eerie lake monster devours a group of college students. “Nightcrawlers”, by Robert McCammon, incorporates the themes by giving a Vietnam vet the ability to make his nightmares come alive. All three stories include the main aspects of the dark fantasy genre, but in my opinion, Nightcrawlers incorporates them the best.
Dark fantasy doesn’t always have to include fantastical elements, like vampires and creepy creatures; sometimes it’s just a killer truck driver. In Duel Mann is trying to get to San Francisco, but on his way he encounters a truck. This truck though doesn’t like being passed though, and so when Mann does all hell breaks loose. The driver constantly follows, instills the fear of death in, and tries to kill Mann. The truck driver even went as far as waving him on when a car was in the other lane. “The car came under his control again. Mann was sucking breath in through his mouth. His heart was pounding almost painfully. My God! He thought. He wanted me to hit that car head on” (161 McCammon). The fear of dying is strong in this story, and Mann knows he may not live. Duel uses a modern example of a deadly car chase to show the fear of dying in Mann.
Scary and killer creatures are often used in dark fantasy to express fear, death, and the unknown. In The Raft the creature is some sort of compact liquid type of creature that sucks its victims up. The creature uses a trick that entrances the victims to looking into the spirals it creates before sucking them up to their doom. The four students don’t know what this creature is, thus the unknown part. The fear wasn’t that high until after Rachel was gruesomely murdered by the creature. The students knew they were going to die, it was inevitable. The story used most of the themes of dark fantasy to effectively show the fear, gruesome deaths, and unknowing.
Nightcrawlers is a great example of dark fantasy because not only does it involve fear of death, but also the magical ability to make nightmares come alive. Price had been through a lot while in Vietnam. Having to step on dying comrades for his use of escape has haunted him all of his life. Now whenever he sleeps, his dark memories come alive as the “Nightcrawlers” come to take him back. The ability to transform dreams is not normal and especially scary since they won’t go away until he dies or the Nightcrawlers get their revenge. When Price is on the floor unconscious, his comrades come out of the woods and open fire on the diner. Bob along with the others present fear for their life as bullets fly everywhere and destroy everything in the diner. The only way they can disappear is if Price wakes up or he dies. In the end, the Nightcrawlers get their revenge by killing Price (this also makes them disappear). His soul was then able to rest, as he joined his comrades. Nightcrawlers is the best example of dark fantasy because it combines both dark and fantasy elements.
All the stories bring something to the table, but it is Nightcrawlers that takes the cake in most effective showing dark fantasy. The other two provide either too few of the elements or only use themes from one of the two areas of dark fantasy. Nightcrawlers showed the dark side with the fear of death and the unknown. With the fantasy side the example is the ability to make dream come alive. The dark fantasy genre is all about death, fear, and the unknown, and out of the three stories Nightcrawlers is the most effective example the genre.

Narration, dialogue, and Characterization
Serena and her shopping cart screeched to a stop in front of aisle 15. The sign read Canned Foods. She scanned the shelves, frantically, looking for the familiar box that smells of cheesy delight. It’s the day of Thanksgiving and trying to find mashed potatoes at the time was like trying to find the leprechaun at the end of the rainbow. She saw it, mid way through the aisle, hiding behind the peas and carrots, there was only one box left. At the other end of the aisle Serena spotted another woman, whose face looked vaguely similar to a friend of the past, who too, seemed to have her eyes on the box of Hungry Jack Easy Mashed Potatoes, which she desperately needed. Serena, still in her jogging suit from her earlier run, made a dash for the potatoes. What both ladies didn’t notice was another woman had entered the aisle, and was casually strolling toward the last box of potatoes. Just as Serena was about grab the box this other lady snagged them, and ran off to the next aisle. Both ladies stopped and stared in disbelief, their Thanksgiving feast was now ruined. They made eye contact.
“Cree? Cree, is that you?” Serena asked curiously.
“Oh, hey Serena. It’s been a while.” Cree said with a smile as she forgot about having another mashed potato-less Thanksgiving.
“It’s been two or three years at least. I think the last time we talked was The Washburns’ Christmas party, and they’ve been divorced for two years by now.” Serena replied, trying to forget that horrible memory from that party oh, so long ago, where she had gotten so drunk that she ran right into the Christmas tree and burned all of the Washburn children’s gifts.
“You’re probably right, but I doubt it was a few years ago. You look like you haven’t aged a day.” Cree stated sullenly, as she knew that her own looks have been receding ever so slowly.
“Stop it. You don’t look too bad yourself.” Serena said. She could tell by Cree’s facial expression that the subject needed to be changed, so Serena quickly asked, “How are the kids?”
Relieved that the subject was changed, she replied “They’re doing very well. Sonny is playing soccer, and Faith is in high school now.”
As the two ladies talked, Meredith (one of Serena’s daughters) approached them and complained how she wanted her mother to hurry up, so they could hit up Macy’s before the Thanksgiving Morning Sale ended at 11:00. Serena scolded her and told her that Thanksgiving dinner is more important than some clothes. She then gave her a twenty dollar bill and shooed her off to the candy aisle.
Serena sighed and looked back to Cree, and said “Adolescence is so difficult when it comes to raising girls. Did you have any trouble when it came to raising Faith? Our little girls are growing up so fast, it seemed just yesterday that they were only babies.”
A look of relief flashed across Cree’s face, she thought maybe she wasn’t the only one with that problem. “I agree. I know what you mean. Even though Faith didn’t cause trouble growing up, she doesn’t seem to be getting along with any of her old friends.”
Serena with a concerned look on her face said, “Both of us know high school is a tough place, with all the problems students go through, especially for young girls. Just think back to our old high school days and all the problems we faced. But she’ll come around. She has your confidence.
Things are different now Cree thought to herself. The bad memories of high school are all behind her now. She never liked to think of those days when she would come home from school high, and getting scolded by her parents for making wrong choices and hanging out with the wrong crowd. Cree tried to force a smile as she replied, “You’re too kind. Thank you. How are William and the kids?”
Serena, who had been dreading the time that the question would come up, calmly answered “William has been busy, you know, being a doctor and all. The kids are doing fine. We just returned home from our trip from France.”
Cree, though very jealous at the time, did not show it. She had always wanted to go to Paris, but could never afford it. So she tried to sound happy, and started to pry as much information out of Serena as she could. “No way! Ted and I have always wanted to go there, but we’ve never had the money.”
Reluctant that her family matters weren’t brought up any further, Serena indulged on her trip. “You two should totally go, Meredith and Kristin had a blast and made a bunch of new friends. If you ever wanted to get away, maybe for a long vacation, I’d be happy to look after the kids.
Cree, taken back by what Serena had just offered, thought back to Sonny and Faith. “I don’t know, I think the kids, especially Faith, would like France. They don’t really like long tips though. Faith went to a camp in Vermont last summer, and really enjoyed it and made lots of friends.”
Serena, who was still ranting on about everything great about Paris stated, “I’m sure they would. France is the city of love and all.
With a curious look Cree asked, “What places did you guys visit?”
“Well obviously the Eiffel Tower, The Catacombs, and the Louvre. But we also visited little shops and….”
“Mom I think we should really go, it’s 9:30.” Meredith had suddenly appeared and interrupted Serena.
Serena saw that Meredith was holding a boatload of candy in her hands. She must’ve spent the whole twenty dollars. Not wanting to cause a ruckus in the store, the girls quickly made their goodbyes and exchanged numbers, and left the store.
“Cree? Cree, is that you?” Serena asked curiously.
“Oh, hey Serena. It’s been a while.” Cree said with a smile as she forgot about having another mashed potato-less Thanksgiving.

Pans Labyrunth Movie Review
The Meaning of Simplicity
Pans Labyrinth is the epitome of a dark fantasy movie. Fauns, fairies and giant toads, oh my! The Spaniards have finally broken through with this one. The film attracts individuals, of all ages, looking for an adaptation that relates to modern preferences and a strong fantasy showing. The movie is so simple by nature that the key themes are almost overlooked, only if looking in the right spots will they be found.
Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) is a young girl who is very intrigued by fantasy stories. During the Spanish Civil War, her father is killed, and her mother has married Captain Vidal (Sergi López). Captain Vidal is stationed in the woods where he has trapped the Rebels. He demands that Ofelia and her mother come to where he is, so he can witness the birth of his son. But the Rebels have retreated to the hills, and the Fascists struggle to corner and trap them. Even though their supplies are cut off by the Fascists, they receive some with a little inside help. Little does he know that inside help comes from his personal assistant, Mercedes (Maribel Verdú), and the doctor. One day Ofelia stumbles upon a magical labyrinth where a faun resides. The faun calls her princess Moana. He tells her of an underground kingdom, and gives her the book of Crossroads and tells her that in order to reach to kingdom she must complete three tasks before the full moon. She must hurry and complete these tasks before time runs out or she may never reach the end of her fairytale and be immortalized in the Underground Kingdom.
Director Guillermo del Toro does a wonderful job at hiding the many themes in what he calls a simple film. There is the usual fantasy theme such as the use of three. Then there is a complicated one such as the progression/maturity process of a female. Del Toro doesn’t put it in your face you have to find it. For example the shape of the tree which the toad lived in, the fauns head and the scene where the book of crossroads turns all bloody and resemble a similar shape. The shape happens to be the uterus, the sign of a woman. Foreshadowing is also hidden throughout the movie. Mercedes tells Ofelia not to trust a faun, yet she goes and disobeys. The figure of the faun is all over the screen, the head rest on the bed, and on hall banister. Del Toro makes what seems like a simple movie from the outside very complicated and intricate on the inside.
Not only do the themes shed light on the film, but the mood and music do too. The lighting is very different in the many scenes. Notice how whenever the mood is somber and usually involves Ofelia the weather is always sunny, and there are no shadows, but whenever there is a hint of darkness or evil, the lighting starts to go dark and shadows form. That soft lullaby is also very important in the movie. The lullaby is played often when the mood is very sad, and something terrible has happened. Del Toro skillfully hides all the secrets to his movie in the places that often go overlooked.
Del Toro seems to enjoy hiding his themes and mood where only the keenest of eyes could point them out. Del Toro gives Pans Labyrinth simplicity that relates to most fantasy movies, but the viewer has to really look deep to uncover the movies secret meanings.

Plot Summary for Pans Labyrinth

Dozens Project
12. Dune- In the year 10191, two families are fighting over a spice (melange), and control over the planet Arrakis. One man fighting for power decided to throw the families against each other so he could sneak in and take control. He tried getting the offspring of the two families to mate and provide a “superhuman” that would tarnish the families’ bloodlines. Unknowingly, the offspring that came from this strategy resulted in the birth of the messiah. I had always been intrigued by this movie/novel since 5th grade, when I wanted to do my book reports on it, but soon realized it was too long. The book cover was deceiving, because it portrayed this man fighting a giant worm. I guess that is why they say don’t judge a book by its cover. The movie did have some worm sightings but it mainly focused on the messiah and his escape from execution. I might not have fully understood the movie, but it did have some characteristics to get on this list.
11. Tremors- When I was younger Tremor was a scary movie for me. Those giant, ugly worms that would pop out of the ground and eat humans would cause any young child a scare. This movie brings an element of surprise because the viewer never knows when the worms will attack. The movie is a little repetitive and predictable but even so those worms are scary once they pop up.
10. Lord of the Rings- These movies, based on the novels by JR Tolkien, have blossomed into one of the most successful trilogies ever made. Lord of the Rings brings together fantasy and adventure, as hobbits have to travel to Mordor to destroy the all powerful ring. The movies run very long (3+ hours), but this is for good reason. By making the movies longer than usual, the films were able to incorporate more information from the novels, that otherwise would’ve been left out. The Series does a good job relaying the excitement, suspense, and surprise that the novels showed.
9. Terminator- Who doesn’t love Arnold and his corny lines that never seem to be forgotten? "I’ll be back" has become a staple, and it seems every movie he stars in features that line. Terminator is a movie where a killer machine disguised as a human (a terminator) comes back from the future to destroy the leader of the rebel army before the leader is ever born. The terminator spends most of the movie riding around on a motorcycle, with his heavy artillery, searching out John Conner, so he can end the rebel movement before it ever starts.
8. Back to the Future- This movie is an all time favorite and classic to not only me but also my dad. The movie stars Michael J. Fox as the young Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown. Doc Brown has created a time machine where he and Marty go back in time. While there they make some changes in the past which unknowing creates a disturbance in the future. Both characters offer comedic moments as they try to fix the flux capacitor and find ways to get back to the present. Even today, twenty years after being made, the movie still attracts viewers among all ages, and all the major networks show it when they get a chance.
7. X-Men- The X-Men series is a great example of a cartoon that made it to the big screen successfully. X-Men tells the story of Charles Xavier, who runs an academy for mutants, outcasts of today’s society. The mutants are hated by society yet they also fight their own kind. The film was able to put together a star studded cast that effectively portrayed the mutant heroes (Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Halle Berry to name a few). Wolverine is as edgy and hairy as the original Wolverine, and Cyclops is still the leader who lacks the confidence to profess his love for Jean Grey. X-Men is an exciting action movie that needs to be watched. The good news is that the movies keep coming. A cartoon/comic fan would be pleased with the way the movies have come out.
6. E.T. - E.T. is everyone’s favorite alien. He’s ugly yet adorable at the same time. In a time where most alien movies had kids hiding under their covers and having nightmares for weeks, E.T. had kids asking their parents to re-rent the movie. As a child I was one of those kids, before I got the movie for Christmas, I constantly begged by parents to rent it every Friday night. No child from the 90’s will ever forget E.T and his line “E.T. phone home”. The lack of air time E.T. receives in today’s time is shocking to me. E.T. is a full head and shoulders above the children movies that plague the screens today. The movie was able to add a real life component by having real humans instead of today’s movies where it seems to be all cartoon centered. The movie is an all time great children’s movie, and it is a shame how television has just thrown it aside.
5. Transformers- Transformers is another example of a cartoon turned into a successful trilogy. I would watch Transformers every time it was on. Saturday was cartoon day for me. Transformers the movie brings Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots to the big screen where they fight Megatron and the Decepticons. Then to add to all the excitement, they add Megan Fox to the cast. So when you’re not watching the robots, there is a second option.
4. Matrix- The Matrix trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies of all time. The series can be very confusing to many, especially if they don’t understand the concept of the digital world as reality. The matrix is a world where the creator rules all. Every object can be seen, but in reality it isn’t there. The only reason it appears is because the mind believes that the object is there. Keanu Reeves might not be that great of an actor, but he and Mr. Smith made one of the best rivalries in movie history. It was inevitable that this movie appear on this list.
3. Men in Black- One of the few comedies on this list, Men in Black relays the concept of alien life forms living on Earth undercover as regular human beings. Just imagine every bug is an alien, and the guy who delivers your papers could have six arms. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones provide the comedic aspect to the movie as they go along blasting and capturing the bad aliens. Smith (J) is the impatient one who loves to use his gun, and Jones (K) is the stern one who is famous for his one line responses. If you want to see MIB III you‘re going to have to wait, because it doesn’t come out until 2012.
2. Harry Potter- This series has taken the popular book series and turned it into real life adaptation of teenage life. The movie is directed toward a teen audience and the director makes the movie relevant to today’s teenagers. Ignoring the magical world of wizardry the movie incorporates the everyday problems that teenagers go through on an everyday basis like school, relationships, and the different personality’s people can have. Harry is the jock whom everyone is envious of, Ron is the reliable wingman, and Hermione is the nerd who spends her time engulfed in the library or a book. The magic is used to create a fantasy element that reels in the attention of the viewer.
1. Star Wars- This is one of the greatest movie series ever made. It spans over three decades, and hasn’t lost a beat. George Lucas did a fantastic job in combining technology and the space world together. The effects for its time are unreal. Even after a sixteen year lay-off, the prequels all garnered the same attention as the first three. Money also doesn’t lie, Star Wars is in the top three for best trilogy series of all time.

dialogue and characterization
Serena: Cree? Cree, is that you?
Cree: Oh, hey Serena. It’s been a while.
Serena: It’s been two or three years at least. I think the last time we talked was The Washburns’ Christmas party, and they’ve been divorced for two years by now.
Cree: You’re probably right, but I doubt it was a few years ago. You look like you’ve haven’t aged a day.
Serena: Ohhh, Stop it. You don’t look too bad yourself. How are the kids?
Cree: They’re doing very well. Sonny is playing soccer, and Faith is in high school now.
Serena: Oh my gosh! They are growing up so fast. I can’t believe Faith is almost in college; it seemed just yesterday that she was only a baby.
Cree: I know, right. She’s having a little trouble though, adjusting to the high school life.
Serena: Oh, she’ll come around. She has your confidence.
Cree: You’re too kind. Thank you. How are William and the kids?
Serena: William has been busy, you know, being a doctor and all. The kids are doing fine. We just returned home from our trip from France .
Cree: No way! Ted and I have always wanted to go there, but we’ve never had the money.
Serena: You two should totally go, Meredith and Kristin had a blast and made a bunch of new friends.
Cree: I wonder if Faith would like it. She doesn’t really like long trips though.
Serena: I’m sure she would. France is the city of love and all.
Cree: I know. What places did you guys visit?
Serena: Well obviously the Eiffel Tower , The Catacombs, and the Louvre. But we also visited little shops and even went to some of the beaches.
Cree: No way! Did you guys bring back any souvenirs?
Serena: Actually we did. The kids wanted a lot of things, and of course I bought them what they wanted.
Cree: So what were they? What did you get the kids?
Serena: Both of them wanted jewelry, Meredith more than Kristen, she being in high school wanted to impress the guys.
Cree: (Laugh). Oh that Meredith. What about Kristen?
Serena: Kristen got a charm bracelet along with a silver tiara.
Cree: That’s so adorable.
Serena: Ya, she wants to be a pretty princess for Halloween.
Cree: Did William enjoy the trip?
Serena: Unfortunately, William had to work and couldn’t make it.
Cree: That’s too bad.
Serena: I just wish we could’ve gone as a whole family though.
Cree: How come he had work?
Serena: William had to stay because there was an emergency at work. A staph epidemic broke out in the hospital, and he had to treat everyone.
Cree: Oh, that’s too bad, Ted is pretty busy as well, and besides work he also coaches Sonnys’ soccer team.
Serena: That’s so nice of Ted. How good is the team doing?
Cree: Record-wise not so good, but they are all having a fun time. That’s all that matters.
Serena: If only the girls got into sports. They were always so into fashion.
Cree: Sonny really enjoys soccer, and Ted just goes along to support his him in his decisions.
Serena: That’s nice, I wish William would come home earlier and spend some time with the kids. (cries) They don’t even recognize him when, he comes home.
Cree: Come here, honey. It will be ok. Talk to me! How can I help?
Serena: I tried to talk to him about it, but he just won’t listen.
Cree: Then maybe you should make him listen. Set some ground rules. Tell him he needs to spend some time with his children.
Serena: Do you really think that would work?
Cree: Well sure it would. He has to realize that his family always takes priority over work.
Serena: I know it does, but he makes it sound like his work is more important than anything in the world.
Cree: I got a plan. Listen up.
Serena: I’m all ears.
Cree: Okay, so next Friday you are going to take the day off. And you and I are going to have a ladies’ night. You are going to convince William to watch the kids for you. Maybe suggest that he take them to a movie.
Serena: That’s a great idea. I’ll make sure I mention it to him tonight.
Cree: Awesome, and you’ll also be able to kill two birds with one stone. You can relax while William spends some much needed time with the girls.
Serena: I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this before. Cree, you’re a life saver.
Cree: Thanks, I’m only trying to help.
Serena: So where should we go on Friday?
Cree: I think first we should visit the spa and salon and get prepped up, then hit the clubs for some drinks and a fun night out on the city.
Serena: I haven’t been able to do that in years.
Cree: It will be amazing, and since this is all for you, I’ll even volunteer to be the designated driver for the night.
Serena: Don’t even bother sweetie, let’s just get a cab, and enjoy the night.
Cree: Alright but the fare and tab is on me.
Serena: You don’t have to do that.
Cree: I insist.
Serena: Okay, if you say so, I have to go now and pick up the kids from the mall. It was nice seeing you Cree.
Cree: Alright 5:00 on Friday, see you then.

Open response for "The Ghost in the Cap'n Brown House"
“You look at the folks that allus tellin’ you what they don’t believe—they don’t believe this, and they don’t believe that—and what sort o’ folks is they? Why, like yer Aunt Lois, sort o’ stringy and dry. There aint no ‘sorbtion got out o’ not believin’ nothin’.” (63 Stowe)
From reading the quote and the entire story, the big idea that Stowe is trying to get out about the believability of fantastic stories is that there’s always to different sides. If there were only one side to the story then the fantasy most likely would be real. Objections are what make stories fantastic. In the story of “The Ghost in the Cap’n Brown House”, there are two different vies to the mysterious silky and white lady. Cinthy Pendleton believes that the lady is a ghost while Aunt Sally Dickerson thinks the lady is a real person. This is what gives the story a fantasy element. With no one else seeing the lady there is no proof to either side. Who should the people of Oldtown believe? The ghost lady or the lady who thinks the mysterious person is just a person. Thus the legend of the ghost in the Cap’n Brown House begins. As long as there are two sides to a story then there are two different possible outcomes.

Open Response to Nothing in the Dark
Nothing in the Dark, from the Twilight Zone, is a perfect example of the dark fantasy sub genre because it includes the three main elements of horror, fear, and impending death. Wanda, the old lady, is horrified of the thought of dying and the so called “Mr. Death”. Whenever someone comes to her door she shudders in horror, because that someone could be Mr. Death. She swears never to go outside because Mr. Death changes his appearance often, and she doesn’t want to get fooled. Even at her age Wanda still strongly fears death. She has lived a lived a very long life, and just about everyone and everything she is familiar with has died. She doesn’t want to end up like them, so she prays that she can live forever. Wanda knows that if she steps outside she runs the chance of dying immediately. Even with the dying policemen she still hesitates to open the door because she could fall injured or sick also. Wanda finally realizes her mistake when she can’t see the policeman’s face in the mirror and he admits to being Mr. Death. Wanda then comes to terms and allows herself to die peacefully. This story fits the dark fantasy sub genre perfectly because all of its main elements of horror, fear, and impending death are observed.

Setting
Today I felt like giving back. I was in a a giving mood, so I desided to visit a homeless shelter. What was i to expect? The building was small and trashy, it looked like the ghetos had become alive. Bedsheets were used as shades and trashbags for blankets. It looked like a shanty town and the inhabitants were dustballs, slugging thier way from place to place. When i entered the building though, the place was vibrant and almost joyous. Music of all cultures were heard throughout, and the children danced to it as it were thier saviour. I guess looks can be decieving because, for a place that looked like a mess from the outside looked like safehaven from the inside. These people didn't care where they lived. The ywere just happy to have a place to stay. They have already gone through so much, this place must seem like a mansion to them. Whoever thought that people could enjoy such a place and have the spirits that they posess.
